Fire Safety Signs
The Health and Safety (Safety Signs and Signals) Regulations 1996 came into force on 1 April 1996.
The regulations require employers to use a safety sign where there is a significant risk to health and safety that has not been avoided or controlled by methods under other relevant law, provided that use of a sign can help reduce
risk.
The regulations apply to all workplaces and to all activities where people are employed.
How does the law affect you?
- All new health and safety signs must now contain an appropriate symbol.
- All hazards must be highlighted with a safety sign if they cannot be controlled by other means.
- The location of emergency escape routes and fire fighting equipment must be clearly identified.
- Employers must provide
employee training in the understanding of safety signs.
